National 15’s team build up matches called off

National 15 aside rugby team may not prepare adequately for the 2019 World Cup repechage qualifying matches due to financial constraints.

The team was forced to call off three international friendly matches against Namibia, British Army and South Africa’s Loftus 2000 due to lack of finances. 

Kenya Rugby Union CEO, Sylvia Kamau confirmed that they are facing financial challenges and will not be able to meet the Ksh 30 million budget for the team’s preparations.  

The team coached by Ian Snook will face Germany, Canada and China’s Hong Kong in the 2019 World Cup repechage qualifying matches in Marseille, France between the 11th and 23rd of next month.

The winner of the round robin competition will secure the final ticket to compete in the World Cup in Japan and will be entered in the same pool that has New Zealand, South Africa, Italy and Namibia.

Meanwhile, the 37th edition of the Impala Floodlit tournament kicks off Saturday afternoon.

Stanbic Mwamba who lost in the quarterfinals match to the defending champions KCB will play Nondies in the Clubs’ plate who lost to Strathmore Leos.

Top Fry Nakuru RFC lost to Menengai Cream Homeboyz RFC will play Kenya Harlequins at 4:10pm. Quins were knocked out of the cup contention by hosts Impala Saracens.

In the Clubs’ Cup hosts Resolution Impala will take on Strathmore Leos as KCB will clash with Homeboyz at 7:30 pm
