The National Assembly is on Tuesday expected to approve the re-appointment of 11 members to the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs, who had been discharged by the nominating Party.
This is pursuant to the provisions of Standing Orders 175, and further to the resolutions of the House of October 08, 2013 and April 28, 2016 on appointment of Members to respective Committees.
The MPs whose appointment will be ratified included Olago Aluoch [Kisumu Town West], T. J. Kajwang [Kasarani], Fatuma Ibrahim Ali, Peter Kaluma [Homabay Town], Ben Momanyi Orari, David Ouma Ochieng [Ugenya] and Agostinho Neto [Ndhiwa].
Others are Bishop Mutua Mutemi, Christine Oduor Ombaka, Mwamkale William Kamoti and Benjamin Andayi.
The motion seeking the approval of the 11 MPs will be presented by the Chairperson, Departmental Committee on Selection.
Meanwhile, ODM MPs are anxiously waiting to see whether Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi will on Tuesday re-admit Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi being suspended from Parliament for disrupting the President’s address.
The Ugunja MP was suspended in March after accusations of disrupting President Uhuru Kenyatta’s speech. Last week Wandayi issued a 24-hour ultimatum to be re-admitted in the chamber following a High Court order.
Through his lawyer, Anthony Oluoch, he dismissed Muturi’s directive that it is now the Committee on Privileges that will decide the implementation of the order.
However speaking in Bondo ODM MPs led by Chairman John Mbadi alleged the expulsion is calculated by Jubilee at gagging Cord leader Raila Odinga’s operatives.
They demanded that the Speaker reinstates Wandayi by Tuesday this week otherwise they will disrupt Parliamentary proceedings from Wednesday.
