National examinations results success attributed to modern ICT systems

The government has said the fast turnaround of security and fast delivery of last year’s national examinations is attributed to deployment of modern ICT systems.

Cabinet Secretary for Education Dr. Fred Matiang’i said the government made radical reviews on the examination process by creating 25 new stations in Nairobi fully supported by technology with the assistance of Ministry of ICT.

Speaking at the Kenya School of Government today during graduation ceremony of engineering and ICT interns under the Presidentioal Digital talent Program, Dr Matiangi said the heavy investment in development of  ICT infrastructure and expertise in the country has paid dividend by being able to leverage on technology to monitor the security of examinations and relay the results promptly.

Dr Matiangi said the government banks on technology to eliminate fraud in the society and deliver efficient and effective public services. He observed that with use of modern technology, government Ministries will be able to save resources from wastage to be deployed in development of ICT capacity skills of the youth.

Cabinet Secretary for ICT Joe Mucheru said the government was expanding digital space in the country to enhance public services and creation of employment.

Mr Mucheru cited the Ajira Digital Program which he said had potential to provide employment opportunities to majority of the youth when fully explored. Mr Mucheru said there are over 40, 000 Kenyans working and earning income from on-line jobs. He noted that among the growing list of employees taking up on-line jobs are domestic workers and security personnel.

The Cabinet Secretary said the government was also intensifying efforts to have wanachi sign up with  Mpost, that has potential of creating income for project 20 million customers.

He said Mpost, an innovative product by the Postal Corporation of Kenya is positioned to be a platform for e-commerce that will grow livelihood and the economy of the country.
