Legendary Vioja Mahakamani actor Gibson Gathu dies

The much-loved actor famed for his prosecutor role in KBC's Vioja Mahakamani Gibson Gathu Mbugua has passed on.

The acclaimed actor who had been battling diabetes for over 20 years, launched a public appeal in May to enable him to undergo a kidney transplant which was successfully done in July.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta led Kenyans in fundraising for the celebrated comedian with a personal donation of Ksh 2 Million.

The transplant was done at Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret. The actor was in the news immediately after discharge where he told journalists that his health had greatly improved after the surgery. He looked strong and rejuvenated.

“I have been in hospital since July 18, 2022, and I was discharged on August 3, 2022. I feel so good.

“I am full of energy. I think dialysis had taken a toll on me. Now I am slowly going back to my usual self. God is so good,” he said.

His condition however deteriorated immediately and was rushed to the same facility where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit until he breathed his last Thursday morning.

A heartbroken Hiram Mungai, popularly known as Ondiek Nyuka Kwota who chaired the medical fundraiser committee thanked Kenyans and the entire entertainment fraternity for standing with the actor whom he fondly calls Gibson.

“ This is a huge loss. I am devastated. This was his fourth month in ICU, and we did everything but my brother Gibson has left us this morning. I will be sharing more details later” he told KBC digital on phone.

MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE
