A woman who was caught with 50 rolls of bhang and 25 cosmos tablets all valued at Ksh 3, 000 outside the Thika Law courts compound last month has been sentenced to two years in jail.
Hellen Mwende Fatuma was caught with the narcotics as she entered the court compound on December 21, 2022.
Mwende was arrested by two police officers manning the court's gate after they noticed her suspiciously carrying luggage as she entered the court.
Upon carrying out a search of her luggage, they found the drugs and apprehended her.
According to court reports, she is believed to have been selling the drugs to remandees at the court as she has been caught a couple of times trying to sneak in substances at the court cells.
On mitigation, she asked for leniency saying she has two children both below 10 years.
While delivering the judgement, Thika Senior Resident Magistrate Oscar Wanyanga said it was unbelievable that someone can be found with such substances outside such a premise.
He also ordered the destruction of the drugs.
