Newly appointed National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) Board Chairperson Dr. Stephen Mairori is calling for a multi-faceted approach with all stakeholders if the war against alcohol and drug abuse is to be won.
Dr. Mairori says the authority will with immediate effect be holding deliberations with the Council of Governors, County Governors and other stakeholders to seek ways of the nipping the menace in the bud.
“NACADA also reiterates its commitment to working with the National Government Administration Officers and other stakeholders in ensuring that the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act, 2010 is strictly enforced to control sub-standard, counterfeits and contrabands and any form of uncertified alcoholic drinks which put the life of Kenyans at risk of ill health and sometimes death,” says Dr. Mairori whose term at the authority took effect on January 20, 2023.
“Going forward, we will also engage with stakeholders and propose amendments to the prevailing legal frameworks to the emerging trends,” he added and called on Kenyans of goodwill to join in the fight against alcoholism.
His sentiments coming few days after President William Ruto said the country must tackle alcoholism.
He regretted that many lives were being lost and destroyed as a result of alcohol abuse.
“National and County Governments must work together to confront this serious problem,” urged the President who spoke during laying of the foundation stone of the Ruiru Affordable Housing Project in Kiambu County.
