President of Eritrea Isaias Afwerki

President of the State of Eritrea, Isaias Afwerki has arrived in Kenya for a two day official visit.

During President’s Afwerki two-day visit, he is expected to meet his host President William Ruto for bilateral talks between the two countries.

President Isaias Afwerki and President William Ruto will conduct discussions focusing on bilateral relations as well as regional developments.

In December 2022, President Ruto visited Eritrea officially to discuss trade and issues of regional security.

Ruto’s assurances led to the gradual withdrawal of Eritrean troops from Tigray, an important step in influencing the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) rebels to begin surrendering their weapons.

Afwerki had last visited Kenya officially on December 15, 2018 during the tenure of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, although he often makes private trips to Kenya.
