The East African Court has constituted a five Judge bench to hear an appeal by the former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on the Supreme Court ruling against him.

The five judge bench consisting of Justices Yohane Masara Principal judge, Dr.Charles Nyawello, Richard Muhumuza, Richard Wabwire Wejuli and Dr. Gacuko Leonard, will hear an application filed by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko against the Kenya’s Supreme Court ruling on his impeachment from office.

“Take notice that the above application has been fixed hearing on Monday the 27th day of March 2023 from 9.30 a.m. before Honourable Mr. Justice Yohane B. Masara — Principal Judge, Honourable Justice Dr. Charles Nyawello, Honourable Mr. Justice Richard Muhumuza, Honourable Mr. Justice Richard Wabwire Wejuli and Honourable Justice Dr. Gacuko Leonard in open Court, 2nd Floor, EAC Headquarters, Afrika Mashariki Road EAC Close, Arusha,” a notice from EAC Court read

“Please note that if there is no appearance on your part, the court will proceed to hear the case and make necessary orders your absence notwithstanding,” read part of the notice.

This comes after the former Nairobi Governor moved to the East African Court of Justice to challenge the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold his impeachment.
