NGO Council calls for patience as IEBC tallies votes

The National Council of NGOs (The NGO Council of Kenya) is appealing to Kenyans to remain patient and bear with the Electoral and Boundaries commission (IEBC) as it counts and tallies final results of the presidential election.

In a statement Saturday, the council chairman Stephen Cheboi urged all the political parties and their supporters to allow IEBC to tally results of the presidential elections until they finalize the process at the right time.

“The Council appreciates all Kenyans for turning up in large numbers to elect leaders of their choice and remain Peaceful after casting their votes on Tuesday 9th August 2022, The NGOs Council reiterates and appeals to Kenyans and allows IEBC its seven (7) day legal time-line to release the official results of the General Elections,” he said.

He also urged that IEBC be accorded time to do things correctly and declare the proper results that are credible, free, fair and verifiable.

“The NGO Council  further urges all the winners and losers for the various positions i.e MCAs, MPs, Senators and Governors to continue in the same peaceful spirit of give and take to avoid any possible election related violence or acrimony, he added.

He noted that the council was satisfied with the way voters conducted themselves and the IEBC officials through reports from the county and sub-county Network who monitored the process.

“We take this opportunity to laud all other Observers and civic groups for their job well done in participating in the 2022 general Electoral Process. We further laud Kenyans for electing more women to various leadership positions in the Country. We urge all Kenyans to continue to be peaceful and exercise patients as presidential counting and tallying go on well,” said Cheboi.

He said the NGO Council and Members will continue to champion the interest for the people of Kenya and humanity at large.

The council also urged leaders who have been elected to serve as per the promises made.

“The NGO Council for peace and harmony among all Kenyans and leaders. We urge leaders who have been elected to be servant leaders and serve the people as per the promises they each gave during the campaign period. The NGO Council is confident that IEBC will finally release results that broadly reflect the freely expressed will of the majority of Kenyans.  We urged winners and losers in the closely contested presidential race to embrace and acknowledge each other for “running the good race” and urge their supporters to accept the results and move on. The NGO Council urges all who lost should always try next time. The National Council of NGOs champions for Peaceful, free, fair, and credible electoral process.
