Nigeria unsure of participation in IAAF U-18 Championships

Nigeria’s participation in the 2017 World U-18 Athletics champions set to start on Wednesday next week at the Moi International Sports center Kasarani hangs in the balance.

An official disclosed that the team which has been camping in Abuja for several weeks is in the dark about their departure for the championships in Nairobi.

Athletics Federation of Nigeria sectary-general Amechi Akaw said yesterday that the federation cannot confidently say when the athletes will be leaving for Nairobi since they are still searching for funds.

It will be the first time in 20 years Nigeria will fail to present a team in the global athletics contest.

A total of 1300 Athletes from 131 countries across the world are expected to take part in the five day event that is set to start next Wednesday at the Moi International sports center Kasarani.

Nigeria also failed to sent a team at the 2017 African Junior Championships held in Algeria last month due to lack of funds.

The world event will be broadcast live only on KBC Channel one.
