NOCK boss probed over “Team Kenya” Rio saga

National Olympic Committee boss Dr. Kipchoge Keino was Tuesday,questioned by the CID following the mismanagement of the “Team Kenya” that took part in the just ended Olympic games in Rio, Brazil.

The legendary athlete Kipchoge Keino, who is the chairman of the recently disbanded National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK), was questioned by the police for mismanagement of the national team at the Rio games.

Among the allegations are that NOCK, officials took friends to Rio at the expense of coaches.

The two-time Olympic champion said he had done nothing wrong and maintained his innocence instead saying that any official charged with abuse of public resources should face the trial individually.

Keino is the latest official of the disbanded committee to be held by the police after the arraigning in court.

Secretary General FK Paul and Rio team manager Pius Ochieng who were Monday charged with theft, abuse and neglect of office duty and were released on a cash bail of Ksh.200,000 each, whereas Chief De Mission Stephen Arap Soi is yet to be charged after he was admitted to hospital and skipped court proceedings.

On Monday, Sports Cabinet Secretary Dr. Hassan Wario said he will constitute a team that  will head to Lausanne, Switzerland to engage IOC official on the modalities of reconstituting a new local Olympic committee.
