Orange Democratic Movement won 3 out of the 4 hotly contested ward by elections in Kajiado, Kisii, Turkana and Tana River Counties.
ODM registered key victories in Nyacheki, Mosiro and Kalokol wards while Jubilee carried the day in Sala ward in Tana River County.
However, it was a bitter sweet victory of ODM’s Kalokol ward winner Josephat Ekenu after her daughter succumbed to gunshots wounds after unknown gunmen opened fire at his home on the eve of the by elections.
In Nyacheki ward Kisii County ODM’s Naftal Nyaberi Onkoba garnered a total of 2,216 votes against Jubilee’s Maxwell Nyaanga Magoma who came second with 1,173.
Kenya National Congress candidate Caleb Ong’uti came third by garnering 979 votes out of 13 candidates who participated in the exercise.
According to the returning officer, a total of 6,738 votes were cast translating into 61.68 per cent.
In Mosiro Ward Kajiado County, it was a close race with ODM’s Peter Ntimoye Kuseyo garnering 1,079 votes against Jubilee’s Jonathan Koilekan 1,046 votes.
ODM also carried the day in Kalokol Ward Turkana County after Josephat Ekeno beat Jubilee’s Nangiro Ekai with 1,715 votes to 1,336 votes respectively.
Jubilee’s Fauzia Sadik won the Sala Ward seat Tana River County after its candidate garnered a total of 1,184 votes against her closet challenger Safina’s Ibrahim Ware who garnered 210 votes.
However both Nyacheki and Kalokol by elections were marred violence with Kalokol winner Josephat Ekenu losing his daughter in shooting incident that also left his other daughter nursing serious gunshot wounds after unknown gunmen opened fire at his home a day before the elections.
