The Office of Director of Public Prosecutions has disowned reports that it’s is possession of a report from the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission recommending the prosecution of Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru over imprest issues.
“The Office of Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) would like to clarify that the Kirinyaga County Governor Ann Waiguru’s file has since been returned to the EACC and is under active investigations. This is contrary to reports in the media,” Acting Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Grace Murungi said.
According to Murungi, ODPP received an inquiry in regard to investigations on allegations of abuse of office for irregular receipt of imprest amounting to Ksh 10.6m against Governor Waiguru.
“Consequently, ODDP communicated to the EACC the critical areas that require further investigations before a final decision can be made on the matter. The EACC acknowledged receipt and are currently acting on the areas identified,” ODPP says.
Murungi says the reports in the media are therefore false and misleading saying ODPP will await the outcome of the ongoing investigations before a decision can be made.
“The ODPP bears a constitutional obligation to ensure that in every case, investigations are completed and the evidential and legal thresholds are met before making a decision to charge,” She said.
