Off-season rainfall has began in parts of the country and the Kenya Meteorological Department says this will go on into the weekend.
The weatherman says the rains will be more widespread and heavier in some areas on Friday 2nd March 2018 and Saturday 3rd March 2018.
In the seven day forecast, the Kenya Meteorological Department says, the Central Highlands including Nairobi area, the Counties of; Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka are expected to experience morning rains from Friday through to Sunday, afternoon rainfall is expected to be heavy on Saturday the 3rd March 2018 with sunny intervals ending on Thursday.
The onset of the long rains in this section of the country are expected the 4th week of March to 1st week of April 2018 and continue to the 3rd to 4th week of May 2018.
The Lake Victoria Basin, Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Central and South Rift Valley Counties of Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Transnzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Kajiado, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia are expected to experience morning rains in a few places increasing to several places on Saturday and Sunday.
The onset of the long rains is expected in the 3rd to 4th week of March 2018 and continues into June 2018.
In the forecast signed by Director of Meteorological Services, Peter Ambenje, Northwestern Counties of Turkana, West Pokot and Samburu are expected to experience light morning rains over few places for much of the forecast period.
Afternoon and evening showers are expected to occur over few places between Tuesday and Thursday increasing to several places between Friday and Saturday.
The showers are expected to be quite heavy on Saturday 3rd March 2018.
Northeastern Counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo that have been in a throes of a biting drought are expected to experience rains over few places on Wednesday, Sunday and Monday.
Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over few places on Tuesday and Wednesday, Sunday and Monday
The Coastal Strip Counties of Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale are expected to experience sunny intervals the entire day between Tuesday and Thursday with Morning and afternoon showers expected from Friday.
