The government spokesperson, Col. (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna has called upon all eligible voters who have not registered to take advantage of the ongoing registration exercise which ends on February 6.
In a statement, Oguna said as at 31st January, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) had only registered 548,188 new voters against a target of 2,987,138, adding that these numbers are still low.
“It is important to remember that voting is a constitutional right, which every patriotic individual should participate in,” he said.
This comes days after IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati expressed fears that the electoral body might not meets its target in the second round of the enhanced voter registration.
In first phase of voter registration conducted between September to October 2021 IEBC managed to register 800, 462 new voters.
The commission had set a target of registering 4.5million voters before the August 9 polls.
