West Pokot Governor John Lonyang’apuo has accused security agencies in the County of failing to end the constant bandit attacks in the region.
Lonyang’apuo said the withdraw of fire arms from the National police reservists has made Pokot residents targets of banditry attacks and called on the Government to intervene.
This comes after one person was shot dead and another seriously injured at Chesogon border in Pokot Central Sub County after suspected bandits sprayed bullets at them.
The two were riding a motorbike on their way to Lomut trading center when they were attacked.
Pokot Central Deputy County Commissioner Were Simiyu said the gunmen are believed to be from the neighboring Marakwet East Sub County.
Kacheliba MP Mark Lomunokol and his Sigor counterpart Peter Lochakapong have condemned the incident saying security agencies in the area have failed to protect the residents.
The leaders now want the Government to provide the National police reservists with firearms saying they will support security agencies in enhancing security.
Lonyangapuo has also accused security agencies of inciting communities against each other saying as a County Government they will not tolerate such actions.
Lomunokol said the constant attacks will force residents to arm themselves and called on Interior CS to increase the number of security officers in the region.
Lochakapong called for the arrest of those responsible saying failure to prosecute them will worsen the situation.
