The results for the placement of state sponsored students to universities and colleges have been released with four public universities getting the highest number of students.

The placement saw over 74,000 students placed in public universities marking an increase from previous years. Nairobi, Kenyatta, Moi and Jkuat universities will admit over 4000 students.

In a speech read on his behalf by a ministry official during the official opening of the exercise at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, KICD Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i said the government is considering proposals for the placement of government sponsored students to private universities due to limited places in public universities.

The CS emphasized the need for technical skills that he said are key in driving Kenya’s economy. He said his ministry is keen on increasing access to technical and vocational education and training in consultation with other stakeholders.

He also urged stakeholders to play their respective roles in ensuring the provision of quality and affordable higher education to the young people.
