Owner of Meru bound matatu arrested after video goes viral

Traffic police officers attached to Meru police Station have nabbed a Matatu and its owner after a video went viral on social media in which a driver and his conductor were seen harassing a female passenger on Sunday along the Meru-Nairobi highway.

According to the police the female passenger had been forcefully ejected out of the Matatu belonging to the Meru Shuttle Sacco after she declined to allow an excess passenger from boarding the Nairobi bound vehicle.

Addressing the members of the media Monday morning Imenti North Sub County OCPD Peter Kimani said police arrested the vehicle and the owner Paul Kiminja and also revealed that police officers have launched a manhunt for the two suspects who are still at large.

The owner who is in custody will be charged with negligence, failing to have proper documentation together with keeping an unroadworthy vehicle on the road.

The OCPD further said that the arrest will serve as a lesson to other offenders in the region.
