Parliament won’t be used as rubber-stamp by executive, Wetangula assures MPs

National Assembly speaker, Moses Wetangula, has assured MPs that the house will not be used as a rubber-stamp by the executive.

However, Speaker Wetangula dismissed the claims, saying the house will remain firm in performing its budget-making role.

The speaker at the same time challenged members of the minority party to table evidence that the house was under siege from the executive.

Meanwhile, the government is set to review the liquor licensing role played by counties to include the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) to ensure strict compliance with regulation.

National Assembly Security Committee chairperson, Gabriel Tongoyo, while relaying the ministry’s response regarding the war on illicit brews also indicated the need for the East African Community to standardize tariffs for Ethanol.
