Passengers escape death narrowly on Narok-Eldoret highway

By Eric Biegon

Several passengers escaped death narrowly along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway at Nabkoi on Sunday evening after a matatu they were travelling in was involved in a road car crash.

The accident happened even as the traffic department and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) enhanced a crackdown along major highways in the country.

Four passengers however suffered serious injuries as the vehicle was caught between two colliding trucks. Three who sat in front were the most affected.

It all happened when the matatu they were travelling in was hit from behind by a truck which was traveling in the same direction after the matatu had stopped just behind another truck which had stalled on the road.

“And as the van waited for the vehicles from the opposite direction to pass, the truck which was on a sloppy trajectory rammed into it, pushing it onto the stalled truck effectively sandwiching it between the two trucks,” said an eye witness at the site of the accident.

Parastatal vehicles and school buses were not spared during the Sunday crackdown.
