In a move likely to irk consumers, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority has once again hiked fuel prices.

Beginning midnight, a litre of super petrol goes up by 5 shillings and 43 cents, diesel 2 shillings and 24 cents. Kerosene users will also pay 2 shillings and 40 cents more on a litre.

The authority says the new adjustments have been necessitated by increased landed cost of the three refined petroleum products.

During the last review in April the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority adjusted upwards the price of the three petroleum commodities, super petrol diesel and kerosene much to the displeasure of consumers.

The situation has not changed as consumers will have to pay more for the fuels according to this month review published by EPRA.

The authority blames the adjustment of retail pump prices to an increased weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products into Kenya.

Imported Super Petrol increased 11.39% from 620.54 US dollars per ton in March 2019 to 691.25 US dollars per ton in April 2019; Diesel shot up by 2.75% from 624.51 US dollars per ton to 641.67 US dollars per ton while Kerosene increased by 2% from 662.55 US dollars per ton to 675.82 US dollars per ton.

EPRA says the new prices have factored in the 8% value-added tax as stipulated in the Finance Act 2018.
