Five people have died after a light aircraft crashed Wednesday morning at Kamwingi area in Londiani, Kericho county.
Four tourists and a Kenyan pilot are reported to have been on board the chartered plane.
Witnesses say the Cessna 206G plane registration number 5Y-BSE appeared to have developed a mechanical problem before it came crashing into the thick forest in Londiani.
“There were five occupants in the plane and they did not survive,” said Edward Mwamburi, police chief for the Rift Valley region.
He said the Cessna plane was heading from the Maasai Mara to Lodwar, near Lake Turkana.
All the occupants onboard the ill-fated plane died on the spot.
The aviation safety network says it is investigating the circumstances around the crash.
The plane reportedly had just left Masaai Mara and was en route to Lodwar with the passengers on board when the incident occurred.
Masai Mara National Reserve is one of the most popular tourism destinations in Kenya- Africa. The reserve is located in the Great Rift Valley in primarily open grassland.
Wildlife tends to be most concentrated on the reserve’s western escarpment.
The Masai Mara is regarded as the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife viewing areas.
