Planned demos over ongoing doctors’ strike

By Lynace Mwashigadi

Civil societies, faith based organizations and women medical doctors association are set to hold a demonstration this afternoon to pressure the striking doctors and the government to reach an agreement.

The groups under the Kenya treatment action movement caucus which are demanding for the negotiations to be held in public as a matter of public interest are expected to present their petition to Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Cleopa Mailu and Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union.

The two aggrieved parties have been locked in a series of meetings since last Sunday in an effort to resolve the standoff.

The mediating parties which have failed to divulge information to the public over the status of the negotiations had earlier called for the extension of the seven day’s deadline provided by the Labour Relations court after reaching an agreement by Thursday.

The mediating team comprises officials from the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, the Central Organization of Trade Unions and a representative from the council of governors.
