Police defend Muranga killer officer


Police in Mukarara village of Kangema constituency have finally spoken up to defend the Kangema deputy OCPD who allegedly killed 19-year-old Harrison Irungu while drunk, two weeks ago.

Deputy County Commissioner for Kangema Sub-County, William Lenaremo, defended the officers saying that the OCPD was defending himself from the young man who allegedly attacked him with a stone.

The bereaved supposedly tried to hit the officer with a stone.

Lenaremo further said Irungu had in three circumstances been arrested for different accounts.

He however confirmed the allegations that the officer had come from a local pub adding that the bar owner had escorted the armed police officer home.

It is at this point that Irungu allegedly attacked the officer with a stone, who responded by opening fire on the victim.

Asked why it took two weeks before issuing a statement over the incident, Lenaremo said investigations were ongoing hence the police could not issue a statement without concrete evidence.

The autopsy report issued by a government pathologist indicates the body was ridden with more than ten bullets which was contradictory to Lenaremo’s claims that the boy was shot five times.

The family is now seeking justice.
