Police on patrol Wednesday morning seized bhang with street value of Ksh. 2.2 million along Nairobi Mombasa highway at Ndara, near Voi Town.
Taita Taveta County Police boss Halima Abdi says police seized the bhang consignment which was being ferried in a four wheel drive car after trailing it for several kilometers in the bush.
Halima warned that those involved in illegal business within the County will be arrested and prosecuted.
Addressing the press the police boss said that investigations into the incident have been launched to establish where the bhang consignment was coming from. The driver and his colleague managed to escape.
The vehicle which was transporting the consignment has been towed to Voi police station.
Meanwhile, residents of Ndeiya in Kiambu County are protesting against the increased peddling of narcotics in the area.
The locals are accusing a group of unscrupulous individuals of selling bhang to the youth who are mainly students thus ruining their future.
Hundreds of residents marched and stormed the home of a suspect they accuse of peddling bhang to the youth in Ndacha Nachu in Ndeiya, Kiambu.
According to the area chief Mungai Mwaura, the suspect has previously been arrested and arraigned in court after being caught with over 200 rolls of bhang but was later set free under mysterious circumstance.
The residents now want the suspect to vacate the village claiming he was a stranger who is only interested to kill the future of young people.
