Police officers in Kisumu have launched investigations to nab killers of a night guard at a state-owned estate in the area.
The night guard was on Wednesday morning found murdered at Railways, Nyalenda Estate, causing fear amongst residents.
The body of the deceased who reported for duty on Tuesday evening, was found under a lorry at the parking yard.
According to one of the tenants at the Estate owned by Kenya Railways (KR), Godfrey Olongo, the guard appeared to have been hit by a blunt object by unknown assailants.
His trouser, he said, was torn, an indicator that there was a struggle before he was subdued and killed.
The Estate, he said, was manned by two contracted guards, one stationed at the gate and the other inside the residential area.
The thugs, he added, broke into a Postal Corporation of Kenya van that was parked next to the lorry.
“They thought the branded van had some valuables. However, they did not get anything inside. They proceeded to break into another car whose owner said he lost a laptop,” he said.
Steve Otieno who has lived at the Estate for many years said the incident was shocking, since it has never been witnessed in the area.
Residents described the deceased as a soft spoken and lively person, who was keen on his duties and related well with the tenants.
Police dusted the scene for fingerprints and carried the body to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) morgue, as investigations continue.
