Police probe theft of Ksh 11m from Barclays Bank ATMs

Police in Nairobi are investigating the theft of over 11 million shillings from Barclays Bank Automated Teller Machines – ATMs in various parts of the city.

Nairobi County Police Commander, Philip Ndolo, who confirmed the theft to KBC said the matter is currently being handled by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations-DCI.

Ndolo however said police suspect an inside job since no ATM was broken into, adding that it is only the Barclays bank which has the keys to the facilities.

He questioned why it took the bank staff over five hours to report the incidents which happened Saturday morning.

The thieves targeted ATMs at Mutindwa in Buruburu, Kenyatta National Hospital and The Mater Hospital in South B, where they stole  6.3 million shillings, 4.3 million shillings and 1 million shillings respectively.
