Police search for man captured on video assaulting wife

The DPP says the clip has incited a huge response and incensed many Kenyans.

Police are looking for a man who was caught on camera assaulting a woman said to be his wife in Kya-aka village, Makueni County.

The video circulating on social media shows the 33-year-old being kicked and pushed to the ground.

The manhunt follows an order by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji for the suspect’s immediate arrest.

The victim is currently in hospital with serious injuries.

The area Chief said the man followed the woman who had gone to graze animals in the field and attacked her accusing her of infidelity.

“The DPP’s attention has been drawn to a viral video clip of a man assaulting a woman in Makueni. Consequently, the DPP has directed the @DCI_Kenya to immediately have the suspect arrested & arraigned before court @fidakenya @CREAWKenya,” the tweet from the office of the DPP stated.

The officers are also looking for a group of onlookers who also took the video of the lady being assaulted without assisting her.

The man is pictured slapping and kicking a woman on the ground with onlookers watching.

She is now in hospital nursing her wounds. The incident has elicited public outrage with Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior condemning the incident.

Elsewhere, in Kisii County, a man has allegedly severed the hand of his spouse due to a domestic row in Gucha South Sub County.

25 year old  Evans Kengere Manyansa allegedly attacked Ednah Kemuma aged 21 and a mother of one at her parents’  home where she had sought refuge.

No arrests have been made after the incident.
