Police seize bhang, alcohol in minibus ferrying students

Traffic Police from Chuka police station are holding a Nairobi-bound minibus that was impounded Friday along Chuka-Nairobi highway carrying drunk students who were travelling home after closing schools.

On search, the police officer recovered a roll of bhang and two cans of alcohol on the floor of the minibus belonging to Huruma Minibus Sacco that is licensed to operate within Nairobi city.

Speaking to journalists, Chuka/Igambang’ombe OCPD Barasa Sayia said police manning a section of the highway between Chuka and Embu town flagged down the bus but the diver declined to stop.

The officers chased the bus that was speeding and intercepted it at Kangoro market at the border of Tharaka-Nithi and Embu Counties.

He said the driver and his conductor and thirty three students on bound; nine from Karamugu Girls’ High and 24 from Ikuu Boys’ High were escorted to Chuka Police Station where they were locked up.

He however said after consultation with the officials from the ministry of education, the students were handed over to the principals and were taken back to school.
