Property worth millions of shillings was razed down Friday after a fire gutted down a school dormitory at Chemasiri Mixed Secondary School in Teso North Sub County.
According to the School Principal Fred Asievuka, the 8.00 am incident affected the boys’ dormitory which houses 110 students.
“It was around 8.00 am when the students had settled for examinations when a support staff informed the school administration that the dormitory was in flames, we rushed there but were not able to rescue anything because the fire was overwhelming,” said Asievuka.
He appealed to well-wishers to come out and support the school and the affected students so that they can continue with their normal learning activities.
“On behalf of the Board of Management, I am appealing to all well-wishers, especially the local stakeholders like the Governor, Women Representative, area MP and MCA to assist the students so that they can continue with their normal life,” he said.
The Principal further said that a similar incident affected the school two years ago but the cause has not been established.
“Two years ago, a dormitory with a capacity of 100 students got burnt and after investigations, it was considered to be an electrical fault,” he said.
