Public University workers threaten to strike in January

By Wesley Rutto

Lecturers and non-teaching staff from Public Universities across the country have threatened to boycott work in January next year if the government fails to implement a 2013-2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Through the University Academic Staff Union, UASU, Secretary General, Dr. Constantine Wasonga and Kenya Universities Staff Union, (KUSU), Secretary General Dr. Charles Mukhwaya, they have given the government until January 10th next year to conclude the negotiations.

Dr. Wasonga claimed that their salaries were last reviewed in 2010 and are now demanding a review by January 3rd.

The impending strike threat comes with health services crippled in nearly all the 47 Counties due to a Doctors strike now in week three.
