Quack doctor Mugo wa Wairimu fined Ksh 1.4 million for running illegal business

James Mugo alias Mugo wa Wairimu has been fined Ksh 1.4 million failure to which he will serve three years.

The quack doctor was found guilty for operating a pharmaceutical business without being registered by the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

Senior Resident Magistrate Martha Nanzushi ruled that the prosecution had proved its case against Wairimu and also found him guilty of practising as a medical doctor without being registered and licensed.

Mugo wa Wairimu will spend the next 3 years in jail if he fails to pay a fine of Ksh 1.4 million after being convicted for operating an unlicensed medical facility.

While handing down the sentence the court noted that the offences were serious and the prosecution had proved its case.

Mugo denied the charges in 2018 after being arrested while on the run in Kiambu.

He was later charged for operating a clinic, laboratory, a pharmacy and practising as a nurse without licenses from relevant authorities.

His two employees arrested were however released on bail.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board, Kenya National Union of Nurses and the Kenya Medical Laboratory Practitioners had distanced themselves saying Mugo was not a member of their professional bodies.
