Red Cross launches Sh180m water project in Ganze

The Kenya Red Cross Society (KRC) has initiated the construction of Sh180 million water project in Ganze Constituency to reduce the biting effects of drought affecting about 250, 000 people in the area.

Governor Amason Kingi said the 11 kilometers Bamba-Ganze water connection project done in partnership with the county government is expected to be complete in the next three months.

Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony at Bamba for the construction of 300,000 liters water tank and installation of water pumps, he said the project shall help residents obtain water for domestic and agricultural use.

“The Bamba-Ganze water project which is on its second phase shall reduce the burden to residents who have been walking for many kilometers under the scorching sun in search of water,” he said.

Kingi said the project is also aimed at replacing pipes on an earlier Water tank and pumps at Ganze that have wearied out after the pipes begun busting on pumping.

“The water could therefore not reach its destination since the place is hilly therefore needs to use a lot of pressure,” he added.

KRC Secretary General Abass Gullet, urged residents to preserve the water pipes and tanks and monitor any form of vandalisation that could affect residents,” he said.’
