Rehabilitation of Marigat-Loruk Road to begin

By Carol Njenga

The Baringo County Government has assured tourism stakeholders in the Lake Baringo Tourism Circuit that the delayed Marigat-Loruk Road will be rehabilitated before the end of the year.

Baringo County Governor Moses Cheboi says the Kenya National Highways Authority has already finalized the tendering process for construction works on the road.

The Marigat- Loruk Road has been in bad shape for several years now affecting transport services in the county and largely the tourism sector considering it leads to Lake Baringo which is a major tourism attraction in Baringo County.

Rift Valley Adventures Tours and Hotel Marketing Manager Christopher Komen says business at the Soi Safari Lodge at Lake Baringo has reduced to 75% as a result of the poor road network.

According to tourism stakeholders in the Lake Baringo Tourism Circuit, most visitors have shied away from traveling to the tourist destination due to the poor road network.

Cheboi has however assured tourism stakeholders in Baringo County that the road network in the region will be refurbished to ensure businesses are not affected.

The Kenya National Highways Authority has already finalized the tendering process and the contractor is expected to start construction work on the road by the end of this year.
