Requiem mass for Mwingi accident victims to be held Saturday

The Catholic Diocese of Kitui will on Thursday hold a joint requiem mass for the 11 pupils of St. Gabriel boarding school who died in a road accident involving a school bus and a lorry on Saturday night.

According to a statement by Vica General Kitui Diocese Rev. Joseph Mwongela, the church has been greatly hit by the accident and will be holding a requiem mass on Thursday at St. Josephs minor Seminary at Mwingi.

The Catholic Church is also raising funds to give the departed pupils a proper send off.

This comes as a team of Quality Assurance and Standards officers continue investigating the exact cause of the accident before submitting a final report to the Ministry of education for further action.

A preliminary report filed yesterday indicates that by the time of the accident, the bus had 47 pupils on board, three teachers and a matron.

The Ministry has directed all schools to strictly comply with the existing regulations governing transportation of learners especially this week during music festival competitions.
