Kenya’s Ruth Chepngetich today emerged victorious in the 2019 edition of the Dubai Marathon, completing the 42-kilometer event in course record time of 2 hours, 17 and 08 seconds.
Chepngetich won the race shattering the record of Roza Dereje (2:19:17) in the 2018 edition.
Her nearest challenger Worknesh Degefa was 34 seconds adrift in the second spot.
Chepng’etich is the first Kenya woman to win the race since Delilah Asiago in 2006.

Ethiopia’s Getaneh Molla won the men’s 2019 Dubai Marathon ahead of fellow Ethiopian Herpassa Kitesa .
The event on Umm Sueim Road, became a two-horse race in the closing stages in the men’s competition.
But it was Molla who had the stronger finish as he triumphed in a time of 2 hours, 03 minutes and 34 seconds to defeat Negasa and set a new course record in the process.
