Political leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto in the Mt. Kenya region are promising to rally the electorate against supporting ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid come next year.
They say their campaigns will see the region’s electorate voting in favor of the DP as the country’s next President and not the former Prime Minister.
The group further maintained that they will neither be “intimidated nor coerced into changing their political stance,”
The leaders said even if President Uhuru Kenyatta is backing Odinga for the top seat, the region will not.
“The Odinga for President Project will collapse the same way BBI did. Mt Kenya will not regress into its stand to support Dr. Ruto for President in 2022,” Muranga Senator Irungu Kang’ata said
According to the group, Mt Kenya was fully behind Ruto and his ambitions to become Kenya’s fifth President.
They were speaking today in the company of the Deputy President during the empowerment of small traders in Tharaka Nithi County.
By choosing to work with the ODM leader, Tharaka Nithi Senator Prof Kithure Kindiki claimed President Kenyatta had betrayed his supporters, especially in the Mt Kenya region.
“We failed to remain on the path that was meant to uplift millions of Kenyans,” he said.
The Deputy President who is on a week-long development tour of Mt Kenya Region is in the meantime asking Kenyans not to accept to be divided into what he described as small regional political parties.
“It is these regional outfits that breed ethnicity and division in our country,” he said.
He further called on the Mt. Kenya region to rally behind UDA saying its progressive agenda is anchored on the Bottom-Up Economic Model.
