Ruto: Interior Ministry to blame for ‘Prison Break’

Deputy President William Ruto is accusing Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i and the ministry’s Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho of ‘mismanagement’ of the country’s homeland security docket.

The DP heaped blame on the two over the recent escape from prison by three individuals convicted of terror charges.

Ruto, who was on a political tour of Embu County, insists that the buck stops with the two and they should be the ones to answer questions over what transpired in the country’s most guarded prison facility – Kamiti Maximum Prison.

“It is so shameful when we hear terror convicts escaped from Prison,’ He charged

According to Ruto, the country’s security ‘continues to deteriorate’ under the watchful eye of the two. And he blames lethargy in the ministry for their alleged involvement in politics.

“I want to ask those who have been given responsibility in the security sector by the President to make a decision as to whether they want to work or continue engaging in politics,” he said

The DP, in fact, is blaming Matiang’i and Kibicho for siding with opposition leader Raila Odinga at the expense of the responsibilities placed before them by the head of state.

“Security of the nation is much more important than any assignment. All those serving in the sector must execute their mandate, to protect the lives and properties of Kenyans.” He said

“Even if they have chosen to be youth wingers of some politicians, they should equally understand that the responsibilities they have been given are a higher calling and responsibility,” he added
