Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and Magical Kenya officials say Nairobi Restaurant Week will play a key role in positioning the capital as a leading culinary destination even as Kenya steps up efforts to diversify its tourism offerings beyond traditional attractions.
The 10-day annual dining festival, which brings together dozens of restaurants across the city, has received backing from both the Nairobi City County Government and the national tourism brand as part of a broader push to elevate the profiles of local restaurants and culinary practitioners.
In a statement endorsing the event, Magical Kenya said Nairobi Restaurant Week aligns with its strategy to expand and diversify tourism products.
“We are pleased to endorse Nairobi Restaurant Week 2026. Events like this are essential in positioning Nairobi as a premier culinary hub in Africa. By showcasing our diverse hospitality sector, we invite both local and international visitors to explore the unique flavours that make Kenya a ‘Magical’ destination,” the tourism board said.
Governor Johnson Sakaja echoed the sentiment, noting that food culture is becoming an increasingly key driver of city branding and visitor appeal.
“Nairobi Restaurant Week is an exciting opportunity for our city’s restaurants, chefs and food lovers. We are proud to support this initiative that promotes Nairobi as a culinary destination and celebrates local talent,” he said.
Events such as Restaurant Week complement ongoing efforts by the Government to grow and diversify the country’s tourism products, especially in areas such as conference tourism, creative industries and lifestyle events with a keen focus on Nairobi, which serves as Kenya’s main gateway city.
