Samburu residents ask govt to extend huduma registration period

Samburu County residents have asked the government to extend the Huduma Namba registration to ensure more people have registered.

Led by Nyumba Kumi chairman Solomon Wanyeki, said a shortage of staff in the area has led low turnouts.

“The exercise is almost coming to an end and there more people are yet to be registered, we, therefore, ask the government to increase the number of days for this exercise so that all people could be registered,” Mr Wanyeki said.

In Samburu, only 40 per cent so far have been registered and this has been contributed by drought experienced in this region after failing of long rains.

Defence Principal Secretary Torome Saitoti who officially launched the registration at Kenyatta Stadium in Maralal Town urged the locals to come for the number since it will improve governments service delivery to its people and enhancing the accuracy of governments records.

“This will help wananchi to access services of high quality from government and instead of carrying many identification cards, the huduma number card will consist of NHIF, NSSF, Driving license, passport and will make it easier for children to apply for national identification cards,” he said.

“The exercise is almost coming to an end and there more people are yet to be registered, we, therefore, ask the government to increase the number of days for this exercise so that all people could be registered.”
