From Nairobi to Times Square, Sauti Sol are representing us big.
It’s a very good scene to wake up to see Sauti Sol’s images on the New York Times Square major screens. The Times Square is a major commercial intersection, tourist destination, entertainment center, and neighborhood in the Midtown Manhattan section of New York City. It is the most visited place globally with 360,000 pedestrian visitors a day, amounting to over 131 million a year so thousands of people got to see and recognize our beloved boy band in their picturesque glory.
They have been featured on the screens by YouTube because they are part of the #YouTubeBlackVoices class of 2021.
“2021 is off to a perfect start and things are looking up! Thank you, YouTube Music, for celebrating black voices and allowing us to be heard globally.” Sauti Sol said via their official Twitter account.
Sauti Sol and four other Kenyan creators have been listed as being in the #YouTubeBlack Voices class of 2021. The four others include sisters Kaluhi Adagala and Michelle Adagala, Patricia Kihoro and Mumo Photograpy. The #YouTubeBlack Voices program is a 100 million dollar, multi-year project that aims to maximize diversity and representation on the YouTube platform.
