A contingent of security officers has been deployed to parts of Baringo North and Baringo South sub -counties to quell the persistent attacks from armed Pokot bandits.
This comes a day after the launch of a security operation dubbed ‘Dumisha Amani Baringo ‘ aimed at restoring normalcy.
Baringo County has in the last few weeks witnessed a rise in insecurity causing tension among residents some of who have fled to safer areas.
Rift Valley Regional Coordinator Wanyama Musiambo is calling on bandits to surrender illegal firearms or face the wrath of the security officers who have been deployed to volatile areas.
Musiambo said security has been beefed up in Nasukro, Arabal, Kasiela, Chemorong’yon , Sosionde in Baringo South and Kagir, Chemoe, Chepkesin, Kinyach, Yatya Ng’aratuko in Baringo North.
He was speaking in Marigat, Baringo South after chairing a closed door meeting with top brass security chiefs in charge of the newly launched ‘Dumisha Amani Baring’ security operation.
This even as Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery gazetted 19 areas in Baringo South, Baringo North and East Pokot as disturbed and dangerous.
In light of the insecurity, the National Police Service has recruited 1739 national police reservists effective 1st March 2017.
According to a statement the security officers will be deployed to eight counties namely Baringo , Lamu, Samburu, West Pokot, Kitui, Elgeyo Marakwet , Laikipia and Turkana.
