Security operation nets firearms in Mombasa

By Rose Welimo

Police in Mombasa have recovered two firearms and ammunition in a security operation in Majengo area. The weapons are linked to most wanted Al Shabab operatives Hussein Said Omar aka Babli and Ishmael Shosi.

Police have confirmed that the M4 rifle got lost during the Nyali Barracks attack in November 2014 when a gang of about 15 militants tried to forcefully gain entry into the heavily fortified barracks in Nyali.

The G3 rifle was stolen from a policeman who was killed while guarding Gulf African Bank in Mombasa. The robbers snatched his G3 rifle, shot him three times in the head and escaped with the loaded gun in October last year.

The Al shabab supporters are being sought by police.

Kenya has borne the brunt of attacks perpetrated by the rag militia. Many lives have been lost across the country following incessant attacks by the extremist Islamic group.
