Seven suspected gangsters were shot dead in Kirinyaga County after they were cornered by flying squad officers who had been trailing them from Nairobi.
It is believed that the criminals were planning to rob an unknown businessman in Sagana Town. The officers recovered a gun, eleven rounds of ammunition and assorted goods.
Curious onlookers gathered to see the bodies of the gangsters, which lay beside the road. The suspects had engaged the officers in a fierce shoot out after defying orders to surrender.
According to Kirinyaga County Commander David Kirui the suspects were travelling from Nairobi where they had conducted a series of robberies.
The officers recovered a pistol, several rounds of ammunitions and over 30 rolls of bhang. The gangsters also had in their possession a fake pistol and over ten mobile phones.
