Six suspected criminals are in police custody in Mombasa after being arrested in connection with an electronic goods theft syndicate operating in the Coastal City.

The six were apprehended in a police crackdown on illegal trade in stolen mobile phones, laptops and other electronics.

Mombasa County Police Commander Johnston Ipara said the electronic items were recovered and six suspects apprehended in an operation that covered Kisauni and Mwembe Tayari areas.

At Raha Leo building in Mwembe Tayari, four people were apprehended and 43 mobile phones, 22 laptops, 10 computer monitors, two woofers, two DStv decoders, two projectors and 29 rolls of bhang confiscated.

Ipara said one of the suspects was arrested while in the process of selling four mobile phones and another suspect apprehended in Kisauni is believed to be the main trader of the stolen electronics.

Ipara urged residents who have fallen victim to burglary to report to Central Police Station where they could assist in the identification of the owners of the electronic goods.
