South African firm to build dairy processing plant in Nyamira

By Jeremy Ogolla

Dairy farmers in Nyamira County could soon increase their income from dairy farming after South African Nedebe Company showed interest in setting up a milk processing plant in the area.

Nyamira County Governor John Nyagarama says the County will partner with the company to ensure the establishment of the firm which is also expected to boost the county’s economy.

Milk processing in the country presents dairy farmers with the option of diversifying into one of the most lucrative fast moving consumer goods market that remains dominated by informal traders.

This has seen investors queuing to tap into the country’s dairy industry in different counties.

Nyagarama says the County will partner with the company to ensure the establishment of the firm, especially through provision of land where the factory will be built.

Currently, the company is carrying out a milk sampling and testing exercise in Nyamira, Kisii, Bomet and Kericho counties.

The company will also venture in pharmaceuticals, banana and avocado processing.
