Kirinyaga County government is set to launch a special SACCO to cater for persons with disabilities.
According to Kirinyaga governor Joseph Ndathi, the saving and credit co-operative will be operational by the end of the year.
Despite numerous efforts by the government and stakeholders to realize equity in distribution of resources, special interest groups which include persons with disabilities have found it hard to access credit facilities.
It is a gap that the Kirinyaga county government is seeking to fill through the launch of a special Sacco to cater for financial needs of this group.
According to Kirinyaga governor Joseph Ndathi, his administration has already appointed a person living with disability as its director who will be tasked with actualizing the plan.
Ndathi at the same time called on parents living with special needs children to ensure they access education warning that action will be taken against those hiding such children in their homes.
At same time, the County administration has procured wheelchairs valued at 500,000 shillings to be distributed to people with disabilities within the county.
