Kiambu county past football action

Kiambu based Genesis Sports Limited has expressed its willingness to invest in the local football activities in a bid to boost the growth of the game in the country in line with Football Kenya Federation's policy of developing the sport in the whole country.

According to the organisation's head of operation Bilhah Wangui, the county has demonstrated utmost commitment in producing talents which can contribute heavily to the good performance of the national team Harambee Stars.

"Football has really lagged behind in our county despite availability of  massive talent lying untapped and as a result we want to work with relevant stakeholders in unearthing the potential within the region through supporting age grade football which forms the basis of success of  any sporting discipline. We will leave no stone untouched in our quest to boost the overall growth of the game in Kiambu" he said.

Speaking on Saturday after catching a Kenya Premier League action between record top flight champions Gor Mahia against Nairobi City Stars at the Kasarani stadium, Wangui urged local leaders to partner with them in enhancing football in the region.

"We would wish to sponsor a grassroots soccer tournament in a league of about ten serious teams in one electoral ward at any part of the county. The area MPs or MCAs should come on board for partnerships of this noble initiative as we will do this in compliance with laid down regulations stipulated by the country's football governing body, FKF." added Wangui

While assuming the county leadership after the 2022 General Elections, area governor Kimani Wamatangi reiterated his intentions of supporting sports in the county in a move aimed at  putting Kiambu on the global map besides helping the devolved government expand its revenue collection base.
