Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru has accused the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission of targeting leaders affiliated to UDA in its purported war against corruption.
Waiguru says EACC is working at the behest of ‘Harambee house masters’ while executing its mandate.
In a tweet on her social media post a day after the Commission submitted 241 names of aspirants in various positions it deems have outstanding integrity issues to the IEBC, Waiguru said the Commission has forgot its role and is now playing petty politics targeting those not pro Government.
“Were it not for constitutional safeguards that separate investigations, prosecution, and adjudication, EACC Kenya on behalf of their Harambee House masters would have have hanged some of us for moving to UDA on the basis of rumor, frivolous allegations & cooked stories without the need of a trial. Fortunately culpability under our law is determined on the basis of evidence and not by them. Trying to manage electoral issues through institutional State capture won’t cut. Not in this Kenya!” She said.
In a letter to IEBC, EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak raised integrity issues on 61 aspirants vying for gubernatorial positions among them former governors Mike Sonko and Evans Kidero, Governor Ann Waiguru, Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki and Lamu Governor Fahim Twaha.
EACC also wants Murang’a Governor barred from contesting the Presidency on grounds of obstructing EACC investigators and destruction of evidence when executing a search warrant.
The commission insists that the Constitution provides that a person who has been removed or dismissed from office for contravention of the law should be disqualified from holding any other state office.
