Suspect in Laikipia University student attack succumbs to injuries

A man who carried out a knife attack on a female Laikipia University student has succumbed to head injuries he sustained after the gruesome act.

According to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital Administrator Dr Thomas Kiptoo, the man identified as Ezra succumbed to serious head injuries he sustained while in the theater room.

The administrator said that the deceased had deep cut on the throat, one on the stomach and also had serious head injuries.

The victim, Gertrude Chepkoech, a first year student at the Laikipia University suffered multiple stab wounds after she was attacked by a man who is alleged to be her roommate’s boyfriend.

Ezra later turned the knife on himself, stabbing himself in the stomach and slit his throat in a bid to kill himself, after an angry mob wanted to lynch him.

The attacker was later rescued by police. Early reports indicated that the attacker was in stable condition at the Nyahururu County referral hospital.

Lucy Nakiridi, a cleaner at the private hostel, said they were alerted by screams from the girls room only to find her lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.

She said the man had been barred by the  management of the hostel from ever setting foot on the premesis  after his girlfriend accused him  of allegedly forcing himself into their room.

On the fateful day the man returned only to find the deceased alone, as his girlfriend had already left for exams.
